Create your unique shower
with our assistance
We understand buying a shower enclosure might not be as simple as you had thought. When building your dream shower, there are several decisions you will need to make. Each of these individual elements has a role in creating your custom enclosure. Our goal is to help you understand the basics of a shower door, the purchase factors, and decisions you need to make to be knowledgeable and feel comfortable in your buying experience.
Before you build
The perfect shower door serves as a cornerstone of your entire bathroom design. Before you place your order, make sure you have answers to three crucial questions to ensure an easy installation process:
What wall materials are used in your bathroom?
Form and function are equally important, and you’ll want your bathroom walls to properly support your new shower door. While you can use thinner glass in just about any space, the type of wall material becomes more important if you’re eyeing a heavier product like ⅜” glass. Heavy glass models will not work with acrylic or fiberglass modules.
Is there blocking in the walls?
For heavy glass shower doors (3/8″ or 1/2″), blocking is required in the walls where the door is going to be mounted. For those looking for the more frameless pivot door option, we recommend avoiding prefabricated bases which have a foam filler in most cases, and cannot be drilled into.
What is the shape of your shower?
Whether you’re upgrading an existing bathroom or starting fresh, the shape of your shower area can really elevate the space. Our most popular layouts are inline, return, and corner.
How to find your perfect shower door
Once you’ve figured out the space for your shower, it’s time to start designing your ideal shower door. Here are a few questions to get you started.
What are you enclosing?
To narrow down your selection, determine whether you want to enclose a bathtub or prefer a shower without tub. Both looks are extremely popular, and the answer really depends on the space you have available as well as the individual look you want to achieve.
How will it open?
Swing Doors: Much like any door in your house, these doors swing out into the bathroom to allow entry into your shower.
Sliding Doors: A stylish and space-saving option, sliding doors move along a single line. Some sliding enclosures feature bypass doors, where both sides slide, while others feature a sliding panel coupled with one that is fixed.
Rolling Doors: Much like sliding doors, rolling doors travel along a single plane. However, advanced ball bearings ensure a premium glide along the track on a fixed panel.
Panel Enclosures: For fans of simplicity, panel-style enclosures offer the purest form of entry. Assuming a strategically positioned shower head, and featuring no moving parts, panel enclosures keep the water in, while allowing for total freedom when entering.
Metal framing
Select your frame type
The right door frame helps showcase your shower space, particularly any high design tile work. Explore your three options.
Framed: A framed enclosure includes framing around both the door opening and each panel. It’s the perfect way to complement the finishing on other fixtures in your bathroom.
Semi-frameless: Striking the perfect balance of budget and look between the framed models and frameless models, they are available in a wide selection of designs.
Frameless: With minimal framing, frameless enclosures complete the all-glass look. These enclosures are perfect for providing the clearest view into the shower. It’s the best way to highlight tile, rain showerheads, and other high-end features.
Selecting finishes
Finish selections can make or break your shower design. Shower glass comes in a number of patterns to achieve any degree of privacy. The hardware styles and finishes we offer are designed to complement today’s most popular bath hardware. Want to learn more about choosing the right finishes for your new shower?
